On July 4th, 1776, rebels in America Declared their Independance from the King and Great Britain. Many lost their lives in the ensuing melee of the War of Revolution that separated what would become these United States of America from the tyranny of England.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and many more, were contributors to the way we live our lives as Americans, the greatest nation in the world.
On July 4th, 1826 John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two of our Founding Fathers, Presidents of the United States, friends to the end, both died. Neither was aware of the others passing on this momentous occasion.
On July 4th 1863 Robert E. Lee and his 50,000 Confederate troops, slinked through the woods and back into Virginia where they would lick their wounds from the Battle at Gettysburg. The Union Army had finally put the hurt on them. Robert E. Lee would resign as General of the Army for his failure to beat the Union in this critical battle. That same week Vicksburg also fell to the Union. Lee's resignation would be thrown out by Jefferson Davis and the war would rage for 2 more dreadfull years.
On July 4th, 1917, Leonard Verile Livingston would be born in a small rural town in Idaho. He would become the head of a great family. He was a Post Master General in Southern California and he celebrated his birthday every year by raising the flag in front of his house, attending 3th of July ceremonies with the Post Office, and shooting fireworks with his family. His 4th of July legacy would exceed his wildest imaginations.
On July 4th, Dave Williams the grandson of Leonard Verile Livingston was born. Together they would share practically every 4th of July together, shooting of fireworks, enjoying family, spending time together fishing, and much more.
As Grandpa Livingstons life came to an end and he passed through the veil, more grand children and great grandchildren would be born on the 4th. A total of 4 more so far.
The 4th of July represents family and country to me. Fire Works, the Flag, HOT WEATHER, and family fun all go together with this most sacred of all holidays.
I enjoy each year as I grow older. I appreciate the time I still have to spend with my family most of all.
Please remember these great events in our past that have allowed us to live our lives for the future.
Dave
